Employee Spotlight: Melissa PleasantTuesday, April 2nd, 2013
At Apex Facility Resources, we believe that our greatest strength is our people. We are proud of our dedicated team of unique and talented employees who enact Apex values to deliver the right workspace every day.
One Apex team member is featured in the Smarter Workspace blog each month. Read on to meet Melissa Pleasant, showroom specialist, and learn more about your workspace transition partner.
Melissa, what is your role at Apex and how long have you been with the company?
I’ve been working in the office interiors industry for over six years. I joined Apex two years ago as a receptionist. Now I’m a showroom specialist.
At Apex, I primarily focus on the company’s pre-owned furniture division, Used Office Furniture Seattle (UOFS). I work closely with Tony Grode, used office furniture consultant, to manage the pre-owned office furniture showroom located in Seattle. Tony and I also team up to help clients find affordable, high-quality furniture for their workspaces while avoiding the costs of buying new furniture.
When I’m not working with clients at UOFS, I’m busy keeping an inventory of all the pre-owned office furniture we have in stock, as well as selecting furniture for donation to non-profit organizations in Seattle!
Sounds fun! What do you enjoy most about working at Apex?
I look forward to coming into work every day because I get to use my creativity to help someone, whether it’s a small business owner on a hunt for a few office task chairs, two startup co-founders searching for workstations that can be reconfigured as their company grows or an office administration team looking for a blended (new and used furniture) solution for their workspace.
Being creative is a part of who I am. I grew up in an artistic household. I studied graphic design in school. It’s very rewarding to be able to express that creativity in my career at Apex as I help people envision their perfect workspace.
How does your creativity extend beyond your work?
I’m a showroom specialist at Apex, but at home, I’m a mom and an artist. I’ve been painting and drawing since I can remember. Now I paint and draw with watercolors, acrylics and anything else I can get my hands on.
I also enjoy shooting abstract photographs and capturing the beauty around me. It’s the way I see the world and I love sharing that with others — kind of like how I share workspace ideas with clients at Apex.
Which project are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of becoming a mom. I have two beautiful children, named Isabella and Drew.
They really are my everything. I’ve made sacrifices to become a mother, but they are worth it. I’m proud to be their mom, raising them in an environment that is full of love and art. As I watch them grow, I can’t wait to nurture their passions, whether it be a passion for art or a desire to improve the lives of others.
